Size for home page image is 900x550px but to create really nice home page image we recommend you to follow few more rules.

Before you start:

• How many links will you need on your home page? - Before working on your image in Photoshop decide how many links will you need. Usually 20 links are enough but if you use your home page for work maybe even 40 is not enough.
• Has an image you like enough space for your links? - If not, will you be able to satisfactorily create that missing space?

After you start working on your image in Photoshop:

• Bear in mind that area for your links should be more or less in one colour tone (for example - keep it light so you can use dark colour for your links)
• Links are easier to read if the background area is a bit blurry (for example - links are hard to read on sharp rubble)

And that's all. The other limit is only your imagination.
